Gravity Die Casting Processing

Gravity die casting is a permanent mould casting process that produces very high quality surface finishes with thin walls and cast-in inserts so intricate shapes can be cast rapidly and little subsequent machining is required.

Gravity casting of aluminum alloy is a process that uses the earth's gravity to act on liquid aluminum alloy and realizes casting through gravity flow in the mold. Compared with other casting methods, such as sand casting and die casting, gravity casting has lower cost and higher production efficiency.


Gravity Die Casting Process

● A metal die is manufactured, usually in 2 parts, to form a mould.

● The mould is heated and a lubricant is sprayed into it to assist in controlling temperature and in removal of the casting.

● Molten metal is poured into the mould.

● Once solidified, the die is opened and the casting removed either by hand or with the use of pins in automated processes.

● Excess material including the gate, runners, sprues and flash can be removed using a trim die in a power press or by hand.

● Scrap metal is then re-used in the production cycle by re-melting.


The process flow of aluminum alloy gravity casting usually includes the following steps: mold preparation, melting and casting. First, you need to prepare the mold for casting. The mold can be a metal mold, sand mold or pressure casting mold. Then, the desired aluminum alloy material is heated to the right temperature to melt it. The molten aluminum alloy is injected into the mold and then fills the entire mold cavity through its own gravity flow. After the aluminum alloy is cooled and solidified, the finished product can be taken out.
