Extrusion Casting Processing

Extrusion Casting, also known as Squeeze Casting or Pressure Die Casting, is a manufacturing process where a molten metal is forced into a closed die under high pressure, resulting in the solidification of the metal to take on the shape of the die cavity. This process combines the advantages of die casting and forging, enabling the production of complex, near-net-shape parts with excellent mechanical properties.

Extrusion Casting process:

  • The mold and inserts (if any) are preheated to prevent rapid cooling of the molten metal and ensure proper material flow.

  • The metal is melted in a furnace and held at the appropriate temperature, ready for pouring into the mold.

  • The mold is coated with a lubricant or release agent to facilitate easy ejection of the cast part after solidification.

  • The inserts, if necessary, are positioned inside the mold to form internal features or cavities in the final part.

  • As the molten metal cools, it solidifies into the desired shape.

  • Once the metal is fully solidified, the part is ejected from the mold.

  • Further finishing operations, such as trimming, deburring, and heat treating, may be performed to meet final dimensional and surface quality requirements.

Extrusion Casting is widely used for producing high-strength, precision components in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, machinery, and electronics. Its ability to produce complex geometries with minimal machining and high material utilization rates makes it an attractive manufacturing option for many applications.
